Cormorant Park at Falconara Marittima

Afar few kms from Ancona, driving toward north up to Senigallia, you can come across with one of the main rivers of Ancona province: river Esino. Nearby its right bank you can admire medieval castle of Rocca Priora, provided with the classic drawbridge. Indeed, we invite you to focus your attention moreover on the left bank of the river Esino where, close to its mouth joining with Adriatic Sea, you can find the area of the “Cormorant Park”, set in the as quiet as harmonious nature.

Cormorant Park at Falconara Marittima

The park is broad 12 hectares. Inside it there is a cycle track of about 6kms uniting your destination to Chiaravalle, famous small town where Mrs Maria Montessori was born. She was one of the former women to take a degree in medicine; she was the founder of the first “casa dei bambini (house of the children)”, and devoted herself to the social and scientific constant research for children throughout the world.

In the park there are two lakes that once were used for gravel extraction, and nowadays are destined to fishing sport and the destination for many passionate fond of it. We can assert that the  most interesting attraction of the park is its fauna characterized by the presence of as migratory as resident birds that can take advantage of the river banks to water and then build nests in the more restricted and quieter areas around the lakes.

You will admire various species such as: goldfinches, swallows, penduline tits, kingfishers, grey herons, black-tailed godwit, lively wagtails, the magnificent red heron (when you are so lucky to watch at it) and the very rare spoonbills.

Wide meadows provide for open space activities of recreation completing this exclusive oasis of flora and fauna. During summer time, the park enables the Falconara Marittima City Hall to organize musical and theatrical events, music concerts, food & wine and naturalistic routes. Doing so they promote and enhance the river sets and historical-artistic heritage.

Nature is our own wealth. We invite you to come and visit the Cormorant Park: trust us, it is worth it!
