Ancona City Picture-Gallery F. Podesti – Bosdari Palace

Starting from Pope Square and going up for the narrow and characteristic Pizzecolli Str. – a typical street of the historic city centre – you can meet Bosdari Palace that is the centre of City Picture-Gallery Francesco Podesti.
On the half of XVII century the Dalmatian origins family Bosdari achieved the building and transferred over there their own residence, providing with its transformation as you can now see it. In 1963 Ancona Municipality bought it and since 1973 made it its centre for City Picture-Gallery dedicating it to the memory of Francesco Podesti. He was a painter of Ancona that promoted the foundation and presenting also uncountable works of his own mainly constituted by outlines and cartoons.

The rooms are filled with works by authors such as Carlo da Camerino, Arcangelo di Cola, Carlo Crivelli, Lorenzo Lotto, Francesco Arsilli, Sebastiano Del Piombo, Orazio Gentileschi, the Guercino and many more: the visitor cannot help involving himself but to be astonished when admiring them. In the Picture-Gallery there are displayed works of remarkable value of the painting in Marche Region since XIV up to XIX centuries.
Bosdari Palace together with Picture-Gallery contains also a modern art gallery that displays works of numerous Marche Region artists among those the most representative ones surely are: Orfeo Tamburi from Jesi (1910-1994), Valeriano Trubbiani from Macerata (1937- ), Enzo Cucchi from Morro d’Alba (1949 – ) that is by now Ancona modern art symbol. The gallery counts over 300 works of as local as national authors that do represent Italian modern art. Furthermore, in the inner court you can admire the Pamphilj lilies.

On every first Sunday of the month the City Museum and the Picture-Gallery offer an important initiative proposing free of charge guided visit tours with free rate ticket entrance to the museums for all the participants in order to allow them to discover the historical and artistic city evidences.

– From July up to September with following timetable: Picture-Gallery 16:30 – City Museum 19:15;

from Tuesday to Saturday: 9.00 – 19.00.
Sundays and holiday Mondays: 10.00 – 13.00 | 16.00 – 19.00.
From 15/06 to 22/09 (summertime): opening also on Monday: 9.30 – 12.00. Closed on non holiday Mondays, 1st January, 1st May, 25th December.

Standard rate Ticket € 4,60; Reduced-rate Ticket € 3,50: 16-25 y.o., over 65 y.o., groups of 15 or more people.
Complimentary Ticket: up to16 y.o., disabled people and their attendants. Group Ticket: € 4,70; City Picture-Gallery and Museum – Lorenzo Lotto Map: € 8,20.
